The only thing good about a musical Grey's Anatomy...

One might think it's the end. One would be wrong. It would be listening to the ball & chain comment on the episode.

A few disclaimers:
  • I love Grey's Anatomy.
  • I love the music that has been highlighted on the show and some of it is the soundtrack to important moments in my life
  • I know I'm no JLo, but if I'm being honest, I totally dug Chyler Leigh's (Lexie) voice. Sara Ramirez (Callie) did a great job, vocally speaking and I was surprised that Ellen Pompeo (Meredith) didn't bomb.
  • There were sections of the story line that was very good. The singing couldn't prevent me from crying. The story was a good one.  I am tempted to blame it on the baby and pregnancy hormones.
All of that said... the episode was a train wreck I couldn't turn away from. To Glee-tastic the episode in general seems wrong on all levels, in general. Then singing literally and referring to literal situations that obviously the song is not about - bananas. Breaking into song while operating? That seems unprofessional. The silver lining? My husband.

Maybe the one liners won't do it for you - but they did it for me. Unfortunately he could only stay for 20 - 30 minutes then he left saying it was that or ending it all.

  • Do you think Fonzy's calling - asking for his shark back?
  • Do you think Patrick Dempsey is thinking - do you think I'll get a movie offer after this?
  • Someone should hit him with a truck? (the moment Owen started singing)
  • No. No. No. OH God (this was likely the first thing muttered every time a new song started)
  • I don't like this show, but if they didn't have singing, this would have been a very good episode.
  • Just when you thought this couldn't get more uncomfortable... (when they all started making out and singing Running on Sunshine)
  • Oh god. I don't think I can do this. I am embarrassed for everyone involved.

There were some definite one liners that I couldn't remember - but if this episode has taught me anything it's get the keyboard ready.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE:
The thought to even start writing down what the ball chain was saying is absolutely inspired by Kelly Oxford - if you don't you should follow her @kellyoxford or check out her blog you should; even Time Magazine says so. It's just snippets of hilarium. Like when she wrote down everything her husband said while watching Oprah's Favorite Things episode 1.

    Vamped Up Sundays

True Blood is a ritual I care to never deviate from.  This past weekend, after a ridiculously hectic (and wonderful) weekend Mama needed to get her veg vamp on.  Each week, the story and gory True Blood surprises me, excites me, and gets me amped (or vamped) for next week.

    It's hott.

You know what else is hott?

    Yeah I did.*

Last week it was vamp time and simultaneously a milestone happened. I jumped up as soon as I heard her cry, I'd been gone all weekend and there was no where (for the most part) I'd rather be than to console her.  I wanted to run to her, I missed her much.  L was able for the first time to verbalize that she had a nightmare and what it was about. That's huge. Sometimes she wakes up, is freaking out and can't really talk about what is wrong, what the dream was, if there was one or what happened.

Proud Mama moment: It has been wonderful to be able to watch and listen through her development ... and listen even more because she just won't shut up.  It's remarkable.

Embarrassed but honest Mama moment: This time, it posed as a little inconvenient. While my gut had me jump at the sound of her calling out and she was in fact and as usual adorable it wasn't the kind of timing I was looking for. My kid's nightmare and cue to console her was JUST as Eric was taking his shirt off. Thank GOD for DVR.  Priorities here. Would I have jumped up if not for DVR? Of course.**

As L was telling me about this bumblebee that was trying to get her, where it was, where it landed, where she pushed it - there was a lot to learn about said pain in the ass bumblebee - all I could say was,   "Girl, pull it together. Ok? Mama's trying to watch her stories."***

*The picture I really wanted to put up? Better. And by better I mean filthy wonderful.
**I hope. I'm sure, I mean, I'd like to hope that I'd be sure, of course.
***Disclaimer: that is NOT what I really said... but that's what I wanted to say.  In my heart of heart it's true. Reality was, I listened to the dream sequence... while thinking of my own and gave her coping skills the next time the bee came around. Yeah. I thought my kid to fight back. What of it?

    Secret Level

In coming home on Friday night C & I commented on how glorious the weekend would be. We had some serious television cued up on the dVr. Oooh how glorious it would be.

First on the line up, some Top Chef. At the beginning of the first act they are skinning eels and due to my beautiful wife's skeeved reaction to snakes I pressed pause and awaited him to return to the fun. In the wait for the return, homeslice took the wheel. As she played with the remote which she loves so much something happened. Something horrible. Something unspeakable.

    "mode is not supported"

All over the TV screen with every remote button touched "mode is not supported" was displayed.

Something like this has happened before and in calling comcast we were helped, this time however was not quite as easy. I called once, was on for 15 - 20 minutes in between holding and restarting the cable box. No dice. The representative on the other line said I had to talk to Samsung. He connected me to the representative that would be the answer to my prayers. I got disconnect.

I called Comcast back, talked to another representative- 12 more minutes of holding and waiting and I was informed the previous rep was trying to save me $29.95 to have a technician come out and take 2 minutes to fix my problem. 2nd guy was going to give me the number 1st guy was going to give me - while I waited I thought maybe I could fix my own problem by unplugging everything and starting from scratch. In doing that - and on my home line, I inadvertently disconnected myself to the 2nd guy.

I decided to take matters into my own hands and called Samsung. After 18 minutes of holding and waiting I was told that the problem was in fact, cable related. I needed to call Comcast (again) adn tell them to change the electro-somethings that were being transmitted through my cable box.

I called Comcast (again) and spoke with the 3rd and final representative. The way to fix the problem, from home, with out having a technician come out was to press the menu button really hard and then fast fast fast and a hidden menu would appear.

Like a Nintendo game secret level I had to find the hidden menu. I asked #3 if this was a joke, but alas it was not.

Both C & I tried to find the hidden level and to no avail. We had to make an appointment for the technician to come out and of course, as luck would have it we "just" missed an appointment for this weekend and since this isn't an emergency and the signal is not the problem we wouldn't get an appointment that is at a higher level of urgency.

No cable. No dVr. Nadda until Tuesday.

It's pretty sad how crippling this whole no cable thing is. Back to basics it is - so we rented a bunch of (awful) movies and I am (thinking of) starting a new book. I'm gun shy, to be honest. What about my addiction problem? Can I afford to loose another few weeks of my life? Of my precious sleep?

It's my own fault for not having learned from my mistakes. Homeslice is adorable but let's be honest, she is no good with the technology. She's cursed. Maybe the non-cable thing is a sign that we should be more productive, although I'm thinking it is we shouldn't let L play with whatever she screams about.

    Stupid Sweeps

While I ordinarily do not comment on TV - I have to say the strike really pissed me off - then the shows come back for like 2 weeks and now they are gone again. I mean, shouldn't the writers have to make up some weeks or something? Like when you use too many snow days in school, you have to make up time in the summer. I'm just saying. The worst part has been the finales have been so so. With the exception of Gossip Girl. That's right I heart that show, I can own it.

Take Grey's - I've been less than luke warm on that show than I care to admit but was hoping to love the 'love' at the end of the season like all the dang commercial promised. While I understand this show was last week - I realized today (because I'm still angry about what is to come) that I haven't publicly commented.

Seriously -here's the thing. YOU KNOW that come August- a FULL month before the show comes back they are going to loop the part where Derek is handing Whinymeredith the bottle of champagne saying "I'll be right back" it'll be on a loop... and then some kind of voice over that says... IN THE FIRST 5 MINUTES LIFE WILL BE ALERTED FOR THE DOCTORS AT SEATTLE GRACE, FOREVER.

    Spoiler alert...

With in the first 5 minutes as Whinymeredith explains love - true love BAM it's going to be one of those f'd up car accident scenes where you jump out of your chair watching him getting slammed into a mac truck and he'll have no clue who the love of his life is... until May sweeps week 09.
